Happenings of a working mother trying to keep it all together

Mac Friends

November 17th, 2008 Posted in General, Picture of the Day | 2 Comments »

Ok…so my brother and I have been trying to find a way to video chat.  He’s got a Mac and I have a PC.  I found Tokbox and LOVE it!!  I am also sending grandparents video mail through them.  EASY!!  OK…enough with pimping a product.

Things here have been good.  The kids finally finished off their sport seasons.  Now its time for mom to start working out.  I have started going to a Strike class at the gym.  I LOVE it!!  It’s intense and it does wonders for my stress level.  Not to mention it’s an awesome workout.  My girl scouts co-leader has been bugging me to join her and life has been too busy.  I will now become Shelley’s strike partner.

Well, I have to keep it short.  Just thought I would stop in and post some funny pictures of my little monkey.  She is such a happy baby.

So much to do & so little time!

Well October has come and gone and I just can’t believe the holidays are around the corner.  The kids had a great time dressing up and collecting candy last week.  They made out pretty good and Daniel & I have been enjoying all the chocolate!

Miss Marley is getting so big.  Wednesday we went in for our 4 month shots.  She did great!  She now double her birth weight at 14lbs. 3oz. and is 24″ long (2ft tall)!  She is eating food already and is such an easy baby.  I know that experience on our part has something to do with it, but honestly, she is the easiest baby that I have had!!!!

Miss Carisela LOVES school!  My little social butterfly just enjoys the social aspect of it.  She has started to learn how to read and write.  Her big thing right now is writing notes at home to her classmates.  I have to enourage her to stop asking me how to spell everything though…she is constantly wanting it to be perfect and instead I have to try to let her figure it out knowing that mistakes will be made.  Hard lesson for Miss Perfectionist!

Nico is still having a tough time with school.  Reading is still an issue and so we are going to explore some other options.  I have to hand it to him though, he doesn’t complain too bad and has a good attitude about all the extra work he does.

Daniel has been busy with all his counseling sessions.  He is really getting into the grove of things and enjoys his sessions with his LPC-S.  Being away from the family on evenings and weekends has been a little tough, but he makes to to always make time for the important stuff.

Work for me continues to be a challenge.  The speed of things is really fast and managing 75 people often becomes a challenge.  Especially when you have 9 units to be responsible for.  I know God has put me here for a reason, so I have faith that in the end something positive will come out of it.

This weekend I have Girl Scouts training and then it is off to Houston for a family birthday and wedding.  Surprisingly enough I am enjoying being a Troop leader.  I know…crazy!  I am looking forward to our Houston trip.  Daniel & I can’t wait to go to Lupe Tortilla!  Sometimes its the little things…

My little diva has turned out to be a pretty good soccer player. Next weekend is our last game for the Ladybugs. Below is Carisela in action. Hopefully we can get one of her scoring next weekend.

Catching Up for my Cousin Alyssa

October 17th, 2008 Posted in Family, Picture of the Day | 1 Comment »

Like many out there, I have been spending more time on Facebook then writing here.  However, today I got a message from my cousin Alyssa asking me to update my blog.  So here goes.

PAMELA:  Well after 2 weeks of being back at work, I got a promotion….my boss’ job.  I have been at it for 4 weeks now and its been interesting.  I still have mixed emotions about the whole thing.  The departments and people that work for me are great though and that’s what keeps me going.  Today was National Boss Day and I got a lot of sweet cards, gifts & flowers.  I have also been keeping busy being room mom for Nico’s class and troop leader for Carisela’s Daisy group.  Although its been crazy, its been fun!

DANIEL:  Talk about having his plate full…he is still working for PISD and now has 3 campuses.  Crisis after crisis has kept him on the go.  He is also working on his LPC hours at City House in Plano.  He is putting in 20 hours a week, which makes for one tired Dad.

NICO:  Now in 2nd grade, Nico seems to think he has it all figured out.  He continues to go to Kumon for reading, but has managed to really improve in this area.  This is his 2nd year of scouts and he is really coming along.  He is almost done with his quarter collection, which will help him earn a patch.  This semester’s sport is baseball.  He is not very excited about it, but does well either way.

CARISELA:  She has been having sooooooooo much fun in Kinder.  Loves school and her new social life.  She is still doing gymnastics, but also decided to try soccer.  Last game she was on fire and scored 8 goals.  Aunt Kim and Alyssa were here watching her play…maybe that had something to do with it.  She is also excited about being a Daisy.

MARLEY:  My Marley bug is the cutest, best baby ever.  She is sooooooooo easy going and has turned out to be such an easy baby.  She is pretty easy going and has managed to put herself on a schedule and loves to sleep in her crib (I never have experienced that before with the others).  She is eating cereal and fruit, smiling and “talking”.  I think her favorite thing to do is flirt with her dad.  She has this talent of knowing when people are talking about her…she makes the cutest faces when that is happening.

Well, hopefully that catches us up.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed that I continue to update.  Considering that I started this post on Thursday night and finished it Friday morning, it is looking like it will be a challenge.

Patriot Day

September 11th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Today, September 11, is Patriot Day. This day is a day of remembrance in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11/2001.  The President has issued a proclamation calling upon the people of the US to observe the day by displaying the flag of the United States.  Also, as part of this proclamation, we are called upon to observe a moment of silence beginning at 9:46 CDT to honor the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

So, no matter where you are at that time, take a moment to remember the tragedy of September 11, our young Americans who have lost theirs lives fighting the war on terror and what it means to be an American.

Crazy Train

Well, I survived my first week of work. We are now in full swing with Scouts, baseball, soccer, gymnastics and tutoring. Needless to say, I haven’t been able to work out. To make matters worse, Daniel is counseling on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So I have dinner, bathtime, homework and bedtime to do. Oh yea, and lets not forget Miss Marley. It’s a little crazy to say the least.

Speaking of Miss Marley, she has been a little under the weather since shots. A grumpy baby makes for a sleepy mom.

Tomorrow is the big day…shots! Considering the temper this kiddo has, I know its not going to be fun.

I thought this comic was funny….

Our smile happened this past Sunday. She had been smiling to everyone else except for mom and dad. But she finally gave in Sunday morning when she woke us up bright and early. PRICELESS!!!

Catching Up

August 26th, 2008 Posted in Family, Picture of the Day | No Comments »

I can’t believe that August is almost done. Our month started with a trip to Destin, FL. We had a great time with the Walpole family and enjoyed our time in Sea Grove. When we got back we celebrated Carisela’s birthday on the 15th. Carisela enjoyed her breakfast at IHOP, movies (Clone Wars) and a small celebration in the evening with Pizza and cake.

Today was first day of school and both kids did great. We have managed to get our routines down and now we are just bracing ourselves for a crazy school year. Today Nico did Kumon and Carisela had soccer practice. We are still waiting on Nico’s baseball schedule and will continue scouts. Carisela wants to do Daisies and will continue gymnastics. With Daniel working on his counseling hours, I am going to be a tad bit busy in the evenings.

This is my last week of maternity leave. I have been enjoying going to the gym and getting some projects done around the house. Where does the time go???

Below is a photo of Nico & Carisela today with Mr. McGowen (their school is named after him):
